Make a mold for your confections

MANUFACTURING METHOD

1 - preparation of the Plasticine 50

Place the Plastiline 50 in an environment at least 20 degrees C. If not, heat the dough with a hair dryer.

Then cut a piece. Knead it well, to homogenize it and soften it.

2 - formatting the model

Depending on the desired shape, it is possible to roll, press, work with sculptural instruments.

As we go along, we work on the details, eyes, gills, slits to improve flexibility. The tail can be worked according to the imagination, depending on the desired movement.

3 - the moulding tank

Choose a plastic bin of the appropriate size. Ideally, there should be one centimetre between the edges and the model on each side. Allow a depth of 1 cm deeper than the thickness of the lure. It is not necessary to fill to the top of the bin. The vast majority of plastics are compatible with Bricoleurre silicone. Prefer a flexible plastic that will facilitate demoulding. E.g.: an old polyethylene lure box is perfect.

Glue the model to the bottom of the moulding tray to prevent it from rising to the surface of the silicone. Add the necessary amount of Bricoleurre silicone to a container to mix with the catalyst.

Add the catalyst: from 2% for a slow setting (12h) to 5% for a fast setting.

Shake it well for 2 minutes.

Brush the model with Vaseline.

4 - molding

Pour into the tray on the model, gradually to let the air bubbles escape. The silicone is liquid enough to fit all the details of the lure model. Tap the mold to ensure that all air bubbles rise. Allow to take a few hours (depending on the % of catalyst used).

5 - demolding

Unmold the entire tray and remove the model.

Making a Soft Lure

The preparation and heating of the Plastileurre produces an abundant and irritating smoke. It is strongly recommended to protect yourself with a mask and to operate in a well ventilated room or even outdoors.

WARNING

MANUFACTURING METHOD

1 - casting of the raw Plastileurre

Pour the Plastileurre into a saucepan placed on a gas fire, an electric stove or even a microwave. Pour a minimum thickness of 1 cm so that the whole thing can be shaken later

2 - heating of the Plastileurre

Heat by constantly shaking the Plastileurre until the liquid becomes transparent.

3 - addition of dye

Add drop by drop to properly dose the mixture while stirring.

4 - addition of iridescent powders

Shake to distribute the powder evenly until iridescent streaks are obtained in the liquid.

5 - addition of flakes

It is advisable to mix several colors of glitter to obtain more effective reflections.

6 - molding

Carefully pour the mixture into the mold, finishing with a slight bulge on top because there is always a retraction of the Plastileurre during cooling.

7 - insertion of a rattle

This optional operation is to be performed while the Plastileurre is still liquid.

8 - demolding

After allowing to cool for a few minutes, prepare the demolding by opening the edges to remove the lure from the mold.

9 - cooling

Immerse the warm lure in cold water to accelerate cooling and stiffening.

10 - deburring

Finishing by deburring of the runners with scissors.

11 - mounting

Mounted on a leaded head. Finish with a point of cyano glue between the head of the lure and the leaded head.

Make a double shell leaded head

MANUFACTURING METHOD

1 - leaded head

To make this mould you need a lure, here a 200g leaded head for large shads intended for deep-sea fishing.

2 - realization of the box

The materials necessary to make the box in which the first RTV hull will be cast:
- a wooden base (medium, plywood, etc...) cut to the slightly enlarged shape of the master and drilled with 4 guide holes;
- plywood (CP) sides;
- Plastiline.
The wooden parts are hot-waxed for a better surface appearance and easier demoulding.

3 - the first half-shell

Place the Plastiline in the bottom and around the edge of the cut-out.

Insert the leaded head into the Plastiline.

Cut, remove the excess Plastiline and adjust the height of the leaded head so that the parting line is in its middle position.

Clean the master and smooth the Plastiline with a brush soaked in F essence (hydrocarbon).

Ensure that the leaded head/Plastiline demarcation is as "clear" as possible.

Mount the sides about 1 cm from the leaded head.

Seal with Plastiline or hot paraffin.

Prepare the necessary amount of RTV Lead by measuring the volume of the box (for height add +/- 7 mm to the thickness of the half leaded head) and consider a density of 1.5 for the RTV. Ignore the volume of the half leaded head, it will compensate for RTV losses on the container walls and mixing accessories.

After safely passing a thin layer of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) over the leaded head (essential if the master itself is made of silicone), the RTV is immediately poured by pouring it slowly into an angle of the box, so that it gradually wetting and covering the leaded head without including air bubbles.

After hardening, the first half-shell is demoulded.

4 - the second half-shell

Coat the sides of the half-mould with Vaseline (petroleum jelly) and reform a box with the previously used pieces of CP, after removing the remaining paraffin and/or Plastiline. This time the assembly will be done with Plastiline, in order to maintain a certain pressure between the CP and the RTV. Then apply a thin layer of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) to the surface of the silicone, focusing on the CP/RTV and master/RTV junctions.

Prepare and pour the same quantity of RTV Silicone Lead.

Allow to cure and then remove from the mould.

Drill a hole with a wood drill at the location chosen for filling (for a mold of this weight the diameter is 5mm).
As an option, a groove can be cut around the perimeter of each half-shell to hold them in the plaster reinforcement moulds.
For large molds (60/70g and over), it stiffens the RTV and prevents it from deforming when tightening the half-shells and during the casting of lead whose temperature causes the RTV to swell. However, you can replace these reinforcement shells with rigid plates that you place on either side of the mold before tightening the holding press. For moulds with lower volumes (up to 60g), their dimensions are such that the clamping press pads are generally large enough to obtain a more or less homogeneous pressure over the entire surface of the parting line.

5 - assembling

After drying and cooling, assemble the 2 half-shells and mill the casting cone.

Extend the impressions of the hook shaft with fine bleeds, so that the lead does not flow during casting, if the hook is replaced by a thinner steel wire. The mold is ready.

6 - lead casting

Carefully follow the impressions without forgetting the casting cones.

Set up the hook or steel wire (here in 140/100).

Keep the 2 half-shells in light pressure and pour the lead.

Making a leaded head

Build a stem on which the rear triple of a hard lure will be pierced. The head of the latter will serve as a master. Place the stem near the template so that the master is positioned in the empty template.

MANUFACTURING METHOD

1 - construction of a template

Using planks or cleats, build a box with 4 removable sides and bottom. Adapt the size of the box to the size of the leaded head to be manufactured.

2 - master positioning

3 - preparation of the red RTV silicone

Pour the necessary amount of Bricoleurre silicone into a container to mix with the catalyst.
Add the catalyst: from 2% for a slow setting (12h) to 5% for a fast setting.
Shake well for 2 minutes.

4 - RTV silicone casting

Brush the master with Vaseline.
Pour the RTV silicone into the template all around the master, gradually to let the air bubbles escape.
The silicone is liquid enough to match all the details of the master. Tap the template to ensure that all air bubbles rise. Allow to take a few hours (depending on the % of catalyst used).

5 - lead casting

Remove the master. Add the hook.

Pour the lead.

6 - demolding

Remove the lead (be careful, it's hot!) by grabbing the hook with a potholder.

Glue the Bricoleurre eyes...and that's the result!

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BRICOPATE (paste)

1 - preparation of the paste

To avoid wasting paste, fill a box adapted to the dimensions of the future mould.

Place the dough in a hand covered with a glove.
Add the red catalyst in tube: 1 ml per 100g for a hardening in 10 minutes.

Mix well by hand for 2 minutes until the colour of the dough is uniform.

2 - creation of the first hull

Place the paste in the box.

Push half the thickness of the master into the dough.

Wait until it hardens. Squeeze the parting line with a sharp knife and remove the first shell from the box.

Cut two notches as a guide to bring the two hulls together.

3 - creation of the second hull

Brush the surface of the first hull with Vaseline (petroleum jelly).

Take the necessary quantity of Bricopâte (paste), place it in a hand covered with a glove.
Add the catalyst in tube: 1 ml per 100g for a hardening in 10 minutes.
Mix well by hand for 2 minutes until the colour of the dough is uniform.
Place the paste in the box.
Apply the first shell firmly to the second by overflowing the paste on all 4 sides.

Deburr with a sharp knife.

Wait until it hardens. Remove the second shell from the box.

4 - creation of the casting cone

Assemble the two shells with a clamp and drill an opening towards the centre of the mould.

Extend the opening to facilitate the casting of molten lead. The mold is ready.

Making a hard lure

First, a balsa block is cut from the approximate shape of the lure to be made, then the shape is sculpted by turning. Finally, sanding, painting and varnishing are carried out to give shine to the inside of the mould.

See the manufacturing sheet for a double-shell leaded head. We will obtain a mould in 2 parts.

The position of the casting cone will depend on the shape of the lure. For a popper, it will be located towards the rear end. Vents will be drilled to evacuate the air contained in the mold.

3 - Fabrication of the framework

It will be made with steel wire by bending it with a curling pliers.

A ballast will be placed on this frame to balance the lure. Balancing is important for several reasons, throwing performance, resting in the water and swimming. Rattles may be added.

4 - Making the lure

The principle is : a light or heavy charge is mixed with a two-component resin (A and B). Lightweight to obtain a floating lure, heavy to obtain a flowing lure.

Some technical data:
- The density of A+B resins is 1.1
- The density of the light composite filler for Bricorésine is 0.25 (1 g = 4 cm3)
- The density of the heavy composite load for Bricorésine is 2.55
- The amount of light composite filler for DIY to add is, according to our tests, 15% of the weight of A+B

4.1 preparation of the resin (example for a 115 g floating lure):

4.1.1. mix in a cup 50 g of Bricorésine A + 7.5 g of light composite filler for Bricorésine
4.1.2. mix in another cup 50 g of Bricorésine B + 7.5 g of light composite filler for Bricorésine

4.1.3. wait 10 minutes and re-mixt

4.1.4. pour A into B

4.1.5. mix vigorously for 30 seconds

4.2 resin casting

It must be done within one minute of mixing the contents of the 2 cups because gelation starts very quickly. If we wait too long, it will be impossible to fill the mold.

4.3 demolding

It must be done 20 minutes after the casting. Failure to comply with this deadline may result in a deformation of the still fragile lure. The casting cone can then be removed. Sanding will be necessary to remove any trace of the cone.

4.4 painting

It can be done with aerosol cans or with an airbrush. Three coats of clear varnish will be applied.

4.5 decoration

Eyes can be glued with cyanolite glue.

HOLOGRAPHIC FILM TRANSFER

1 - GLUING THE SUPPORT

It is preferable to work on a clean surface. Our films can be used on lead, resin, wood and plastics.

Apply the special glue with the brush cap of the bottle. The holographic film will only attach to the glued surfaces. Let the glue dry for at least 15 minutes.
Do not take the holographic film tape out of its container as it would be difficult to put it back in. Grasp the central spiral with tweezers and pull out only the required length.

2 - APPLICATION OF THE HOLOGRAPHIC FILM

Cut the required length of tape with a scissors. Apply it to the glued surface.

Apply strong finger pressure to the glued surface. Insist on the periphery. Gently pull the tape to remove the excess film.

Attach the unit to an 80x80 mm bracket using the 2 screws provided.

Tighten the board in a vice.

1 - Formation of a loop

It will be done with the top crank. Pass the stell wire between the 2 vertical pins.

Press it into the groove of the rotating element.

Turn the crank handle counter-clockwise 3/4 turn.

Remove the stell wire and position it on the bottom crank.

2 - Closing the loop

Push the crank handle from the bottom to the left.

Turn the bottom crank clockwise until the desired number of turns is reached.

Push the crank from the bottom right to release the steel wire...

The result obtained.

COMMON FORMULAS

To obtain soft plastileurre, mix 70% Rigid and 30% Fabric softener or 60% Super Rigid and 40% Fabric softener.

To obtain standard plastileurre, mix 50% Rigid and 50% Soft or 90% Rigid and 10% Fabric softener or 80% Super Rigid and 20% Fabric softener.

To obtain rigid plastileurre, mix 40% Super rigid and 60% Standard or 65% Super rigid and 35% Soft or 80% Super rigid and 20% Fabric softener.

1 - mounting the device

Follow the instructions in the operating manual.

2 - preparation of powder coating

Pour at least 60g of powder into the tank. Place the tank on the base.

3 - suspension

Slowly open the air valve until a height of suspended powder of half to 2/3 of the tank is obtained.

4 - painting

After preheating the lead to 150°/160°C, grasp it with pliers or a hook, immerse it in the tank for 1 to 2 seconds depending on the desired paint thickness and remove it. Immerse it in water for instant cooling.

5 - colour change

To avoid powder loss when cleaning a tank, one tank per color can be used.

6 - results

For maximum resistance, the painted seals will be baked in the oven for 20 minutes at 160/170°C.
